Dr Ann-Marie Munday

About me:

I worked within the NHS for 20 years, working mainly within Adult Mental Health Services. I worked with adults with complex, severe, and enduring mental health difficulties, with a specialist interest in working with complex PTSD and trauma.

I specialise in providing psychological therapy to adults experiencing emotional and psychological difficulties, particularly with adults who have suffered trauma.

Difficulties you may want my help with:

Common difficulties that I work with can include feelings of emptiness, depression, numbed feelings, or anxiety.

It may be feelings of unhappiness or unfulfillment in relationships.

Life can feel out of control or feel hard to find what you want or how to get it. You may be plagued by difficult thoughts of the past which may present as nightmares or flashbacks.

How I approach Therapy:

Within the first appointment, my goal is to work with you to carefully understand the difficulties you bring and together form a shared understanding and agreement of the problem you would like my help with. This can be clear after the first meeting but it is not unusual for this to take more than one appointment.

The psychological therapy approach I use then depends on the particular difficulties and goals you bring to therapy. I aim to tailor what I offer to suit your specific needs as required.

I have extensive training and experience in using a range of psychological therapy approaches including:

- Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) – I am currently undertaking additional post-qualification Training in this approach.

- Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR)

- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

- Structured Clinical Management (SCM)

Please see Qualifications for further details

Appointments are 50 minutes long. The number of appointments that you may require varies for each individual. This is something we will discuss following assessment.  We can review this together periodically throughout therapy. I am able to offer both time-limited and longer-term therapy.

I aim to offer a warm and compassionate space, which is non-judgmental and respectful. I want to help you make progress towards the changes you want, whether emotionally, psychologically or practically, so that you can get on with aiming to live your life in the way you want and deserve.

People I have worked with have thanked me for my calm, reassuring, presence; listening with great care and attention and helping them to focus on what truly needs to be considered.

My values include:

Trust – I aim to build trusting relationships;
Understanding – I strive to reach a thorough understanding of the difficulties at hand;
Compassion – toward the reasons why the difficulties have developed and;
Growth – working towards continued and lifelong fulfilment.
I work to embody these values within my work.
